Early Life

Early Life

I was born, Jared Andrew Pashko, on June 2, 1988 in Philadelphia to two loving parents, Bruce and Randi Pashko.  I grew up in the suburban town of Newtown PA.   I attended the Council Rock School District where I went to Newtown Elementary, Newtown Middle and matriculated from Council Rock High School North. During my early years, I participated in various sports including soccer, roller hockey, and swimming.  Swimming came naturally and I would continue to swim competitively on a number of teams through my high school years.  All of my ribbons and medals still hang in my childhood bedroom.

Raised Jewish, I attended Hebrew School at Ohev Shalom.  I would go on to have my bar mitzvah at the synagogue and continue into their confirmation program.  I continued my jewish eduction at Gratz Hebrew High School where I took leadership roles on their student council culminating in a term as President during my senior year of high school.  I also actively participated in USY, a jewish youth group, both on a chapter and regional level.  I held various chapter board roles including President.  Through my participation in USY, I attended international conventions in various cities throughout the country, and countless regional events and weekend retreats.

During summers, I participated in various programs including teen tours to Boston and Florida, day camps, and a 6 week trip to Prague, Poland and Israel.  I graduated from Council Rock High School North in 2006 and accepted admission to the University of Maryland.

Education

Education

I studied at the University of Maryland where I obtained a degree in Economics with a Minor in Jewish Studies.  When I got my acceptance packet I was offered a seat in the UMD Scholars Program.  This two year program which culminated with a diploma seal focused on community studies.  I participated in the Public Leadership track where I engaged in various community service programs and seminars about civic activism. As part of my course work towards my minor, I took various classes on yiddish culture, film, and language in one of the country's only yiddish programs.  During my junior year, I spent a semester abroad through a foreign exchange program.  I attended the City University of Hong Kong in Asia. I choose to travel to Hong Kong to further my economics background in the emerging region of south east Asia.

Career

Career

During high school and college I held a number of jobs.  Most notable are roles as a DJ at A-Sharp Productions , cashier at Stewarts in Margate, and camp counselor at Camp Ramah Palmer.

While attending UMD I held various professional roles.  I worked nights and weekends as a Hebrew School teacher and then Youth Advisor at a local synagogue, Temple Emanuel.  I also started my own business in the later part of my sophomore year, Smash Productions.  What started as a small DJing operation slowly grew to include more diverse clients and events.  where my best friend and business partner, David Goldstein, and I would provide technical event production services.  We primarily offered Audio, Video and Lighting for various events including concerts, conventions, weddings, bar mitzvahs, tradeshows/expos, festivals, and speaking engagements. I would later go on to work full time for myself.

After graduating with a BA, I accepted a position at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington as a teacher in their Transitional Kindergarten class.  This opportunity provided incredible experience working in the disability community while affording me the opportunity to continue growing my business.   After three incredible years working with phenomenal a co-teacher I was ready to make the jump to running Smash Productions full time.

David and I ran Smash Productions from our shared home in Silver Spring.  Over the course of a few years we grew our service offerings, our professional expertise, and our client list.  It was exhilarating working for myself and being an entrepreneur.  I was gaining a real world education about business.  Operations, Invoicing, Bookkeeping, Taxes, Insurance, Payroll, Marketing, Branding, Sales.  It was a tremendous growth period.  It didn't come without challenges and in 2013 I parted ways with Smash Productions.

With an excitement for being an entrepreneur, I tried my hand at another start up, Beach Buggies.  This time, I was comfortably back in Philly, I was in partnership with my brother and parents, and we were aiming to disrupt the vacation experience at the Jersey Shore.  We had a great team.  My brother Zach was in business school full of energy and green behind the ears.  I was coming off of a successful exit from my first business and confident in my leadership skills.  My dad offered a mature perspective with an almanac of experience and my mom was our resident customer service representative.   The idea was brilliant and an instant hit, beloved by customers.  Sadly, all great ideas are not great businesses and there were insurmountable challenges leading us to closing our doors after 4 years.  Through the entire experience I continued to expand my business acumen and had tremendous personal and professional growth.

Optimistic and energized, I transitioned to an engagement role at the Philly Friendship Circle.  I volunteered for a number of years and now took on an official role in the organization.  The Friendship Circle runs programs for children, teens, and young adults with disabilities. Over the course of nearly 4 years, my role grew with increasing responsibility and oversight of marketing and engagement.   Similar to running my own business, I learned through experience with a more guided focus on branding and outreach.  I enhanced my marketing skills in building cohesive brand image and campaign messaging over various platforms.  In addition to marketing, I managed outreach, a non profit term for sales.  I developed outreach streams to acquire clients/volunteers involved in the organization and analyzed trends to improve retention and engagement.   I interacted with many different types of clients and gained valuable insights on how to capture these unique audiences effectively.  An additional part of my role, involved fundraising and development.  These responsibilities broadened my ability to be an engaging storyteller, creating messages which resonate with people. Most importantly Friendship Circle experience validated the incredible value of relationships.

Travel

As a proud millennial, I aspire to be a global citizen.  As the world continues to grow and expand, in many ways we are becoming closer as part of the unified global economy.  We are more connected than ever.  In addition to becoming a strong global business leader, travel has given me invaluable perspectives on culture, language, foods, economics, energy, and religion.  These experiences have informed my thoughts and feelings and continue to shape the typer of person I strive to be.
